Employees Shocked When First Guaranty Mortgage Corp. Abruptly Closes

The Dallas News recently reported on the class action lawsuit filed by Raisner Roupinian LLP on behalf of the more than 400 First Guaranty Mortgage Corp. employees who unexpectedly lost their jobs in June 2022, a week before the company filed for bankruptcy.  The suit contends that First Guaranty violated the federal WARN Act which requires employers with 100 or more full-time employees to provide employees with 60 days’ written notice before a mass layoff or shutdown.

Many of the employees worked remotely, with the company headquarters typically reserved for senior managers.  The employees were informed of their dismissals via Microsoft Teams calls set up to herald a company update.
